Snow in Calistoga?!

You first met this beautiful Andalusian stallion when we posted about him on January 9th. Arthur's owner had him for 18 months and had lost his pasture space suddenly.

This sweet girl loves attention and cuddles.

The big fella on the right was then given to someone that had trouble getting his hooves trimmed, and they became long and painful. A neighbor took him on and was able to rehabilitate him in part, but then was diagnosed with cancer and was unable to care for him…

Dr. Bazeley and Bobby Sue of Napa Valley Equine take a closer look at Rio's swollen jaw yesterday. As horse owners know, no matter what you do to prevent injuries, horses will come up with health issues, and their fuzzy coats🐴 at this time of year make them harder to examine.

Breathe in... Denise and Raven share a quiet moment. Getting to know the new horses is rewarding and Raven is getting to know us, too. She is proving to have a perceptive and gentle spirit.

Apollo and Willow, who have been over-the-fence friends for a couple of months, had their first playdate yesterday, And Raven (formerly Negra) and Echo Raine, accompanied by Blue, greet each other at the fenceline when Raven is let out of quarantine. 

This big black horse, Negra, came to us 5 days before Christmas, and our volunteers have now given her a new name to go with her new life. 

Hang in there, Shaq. The rain will stop eventually and it's made some wonderful green grass for you (Shaq is toasty and dry under that blanket- we check)!

Update on Jingles, the pony who arrived at Sunrise mid-December with long, neglected hooves and a sweet but shy attitude. 

Today, this stallion has a dry shelter and plentiful feed at @allthekingshorsesranch . Just after this photo was taken, he was brushed, had his hooves cleaned and his legs hosed off. His tail has been brushed out! He is scheduled for a hoof trim and Vet care. 

Our shelters now resemble islands, surrounded by some very saturated ground.
