Napa Valley's Sunrise Horse Rescue to move
Temporary relocation to Tamber Bey’s Sundance Ranch

Sunrise Horse Rescue, a St. Helena non-profit horse rescue and sanctuary, will relocate to Tamber Bey Winery's Sundance Ranch in Calistoga beginning May 1, 2016. Sunrise Horse Rescue will move its herd of rescued horses, as well as its equipment and operations. This will be a temporary move while the organization searches for its permanent home.
Tamber Bey Winery owners Barry and Jennifer Waitte are delighted that they could offer much needed temporary assistance to Sunrise. “Barry and I are both honored and excited that the horses of Sunrise Horse Rescue will be making their new home at Sundance Ranch. As horse owners ourselves, we understand the special needs of sanctuary horses, and we think the ranch will be an excellent environment for them,” the Waittes explained. Sunrise Horse Rescue’s Board President Lisa O’Connor also thinks this will be a good match, saying: “Moving to Tamber Bey will be a positive thing for us, it is a great location and we are so thankful to Barry and Jennifer Waitte for their generosity.”
For the long term, Sunrise is committed to finding a permanent home in the Napa Valley. The Sunrise Board of Directors has contacted many key realtors and community leaders to ensure that they have the proper resources deployed to identify the right property. The Board, in parallel, is launching a capital campaign to fund the acquisition of the property and projected improvements. “This is a thrilling time for Sunrise Horse Rescue and the energy around finding our forever home in the Napa Valley is palpable. With the support of community leaders and our strong donor base we know this campaign will be a success,” explains O’Connor.
There has been broad community support for Sunrise Horse Rescue since it was founded in 2007 and Sunrise certainly demonstrated its key capacities during and after the devastating Valley Fire in 2015. “It’s organizations like Sunrise Horse Rescue that make me so proud to represent our district in Congress,” said U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson. “Since opening in 2007 Sunrise Horse Rescue has given 75 horses, most of whom would have otherwise been euthanized, a second chance at a good life. And when the Valley Fire tore through our community, Sunrise Horse Rescue sprang into action, deploying search and rescue teams immediately after the fire and providing shelter and care for 20 horses, and even 2 goats. The Valley Fire was one of the worst fires to ever hit our state, but it brought out the very best in us, and the good folks at Sunrise Horse Rescue are a prime example.”
“Sunrise Horse Rescue is proud to be a part of the Napa Valley community and we are committed to making our permanent home here for the benefit of our horses in need, our volunteers and our growing program base,” explains Jeff Hoelsken, Sunrise’s Executive Director.
For the near term, the group has launched an online fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $50,000 to cover its moving costs as well as the increased expenses associated with operating at the new location.
