Fancy
Fancy was an appaloosa with Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU), also known as moon blindness. This disease can cause pain and eventual decreased vision, especially at night. Early treatment can help alleviate some of the damage, vision loss, and pain. Fancy also suffered from generalized arthritis and DSLD which we treated with antiinflammatories to make her more comfortable. Fancy was a very calm horse and tolerant of all her medical treatments. She came to us with her herdmate, Apollo, in July 2000. A family who helps rescue horses from Vacaville, CA reached out to Sunrise when they were overwhelmed with the number of horses they cared for along with the medical attention required for each. Fancy was in her late twenties when she passed away in mid-2022. She was a very good horse who loved meeting new people. Sunrise is committed to raising awareness about moon blindness and how to humanely care for horses inflicted with it.
